چکیده

Background: Currently, radiotherapy represents the most widely employed therapeutic option in patients with uveal melanoma. Although effects of proton beam on melanoma end ocular tissues have been histologically documented, their appearance at MR imaging is still poorly understood. The purpose our study was to elucidate magnetic resonance (MR) semiotics radiotherapy-induced changes neoplastic and structures undergoing secondary enucleation after radiotherapy. Methods: Nine who had undergone radiotherapy, imaging, subsequent were retrospectively selected. histopathologic findings evaluated for irradiated tumors necrosis, fibrosis, viable tumor, while extratumoral ocular/periocular radiation-related intraocular inflammation, vitreous hemorrhage, optic nerve degeneration, iris neovascularization, periocular fibrotic adhesions. On images, abovementioned histologic features assessed conventional diffusion-weighted sequences. Results: T2-weighted sequences performed better detecting radiation-induced T1-weighted preferable identifying cataracts, inflammatory complications. Contrast-enhanced irreplaceable assessing confirming Conclusions: In light increasing role multidisciplinary management melanoma, radiologists should be aware tissue, order improve accuracy follow-up examinations.

Prognostic factors following enucleation of 111 uveal melanomas.

Follow up information was retrieved on 111 patients who underwent enucleation for uveal melanoma between 1964 and 1987, allowing a minimum postoperative period of 5 years. Univariate survival analysis was carried out using Kaplan-Meier curves and the differences between the curves were analysed with the Mantel-Cox test. Multivariate analysis used the Cox proportional hazards model. Univariate a...

Estimates of ocular and visual retention following treatment of extra-large uveal melanomas by proton beam radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVE To assess outcomes of proton beam radiotherapy for the treatment of extra-large uveal melanomas in patients specifically referred to the University of California, San Francisco, for ocular conservation therapy. Series patients uniformly refused enucleation both at an outside institution and again as a treatment option after extensive discussion at the University of California, San Fra...

Proton beam irradiation of uveal melanomas: the first 30 years. The Weisenfeld Lecture.

Melanoma of the uveal tract is a life-threatening tumor that also presents a major threat to the function of the eye. Although the disease accounts for few cancer deaths in the United States each year, approximately one quarter of affected patients eventually die from metastasis. This number is greater in patients with certain characteristics that are associated with poor prognosis. The annual ...

Intraocular inflammation after proton beam irradiation for uveal melanoma.

AIM To describe the inflammatory reaction that can occur following proton beam irradiation of uveal melanomas based on a large series of patients and to try to determine the risk factors for this reaction. METHODS Data from a cohort of patients with uveal melanoma treated by proton beam irradiation between 1991 and 1994 were analysed. The presence of inflammation was recorded and evaluated. K...

Predictive factors for the development of rubeosis following proton beam radiotherapy for uveal melanoma.

AIMS/BACKGROUND Proton beam radiotherapy can effectively treat primary uveal melanomas of any size. Some patients, however, develop adverse late effects following treatment and the purpose of this study was to determine which factors give rise to a poor local outcome. METHODS The hospital records from a first cohort of 127 patients treated by protons from 1989 to 1992 were reviewed retrospect...
